Acrylic Aquarium Care
Acrylic aquariums are striking due to a combination of clarity,
strength, and versatility. However, they do require particular care
during cleaning.
Caution: DO NOT USE paper towels, window
cleaning fluids such as Windex, Comet, Ajax, scouring compounds, gritty
cloths, household scouring compounds, lacquer thinner, benzene, leaded,
unleaded, or ethyl gasoline or strong solvents such as alcohol, acetone, or
carbon tetrachloride. Keep away from excess heat or open flame. Avoid algae cleaners, pads and magnets, designed for glass aquariums. Use only algae cleaners specifically designed for acrylic.
It is important to use the proper cleaning solution to keep your
acrylic aquarium clear and beautiful. We use and recommend Novus
Plastic Polishes which are available at many hardware or plastic supply
stores.
When cleaning, wipe gently with a CLEAN soft cloth or chamois. Also be sure
to apply enough plastic cleaner to actual acrylic and to the cloth.
Scratch removal: Unlike on glass and other materials, a scratch on your
acrylic aquarium can be removed. Minor scratches can be visibly removed
by using the Nov us Polish and a cloth. Deeper scratches can be removed
by purchasing an acrylic restoration kit.
